Breastfeeding Week 2024 was celebrated by the T & T. V. Institute of Nursing from the 1st to the 7th of August, 2024. The event was organized under the guidance of Mr. Kiran Domadia, Principal of T & T. V. Institute of Nursing, and Mr. Jimmy James Mogaria, Vice-Principal of the institute. The event was coordinated by Ms. Sonal Vaghela, Ms. Vilas Ahir, and Ms. Disha Shah.

The celebration commenced with a drama performance by 5th-semester B.Sc. Nursing students on the topic of breastfeeding positions and techniques. The drama highlighted the consequences of improper breastfeeding techniques on child health. A total of 13 students participated in the drama, effectively conveying the importance of correct breastfeeding practices to the audience.

Audience: 45 antenatal mothers attended the session..
Discussion:
Post-performance, the mothers engaged in a Q&A session, asking about breastfeeding techniques, physiological changes in the breast during pregnancy, and guidelines for working women on how to store breast milk.
Support and Acknowledgments:
The session received support from the hospital administration, including Dr. Haresh Paghada, Administrator, and Mrs. Geeta Solanki, Nursing Superintendent.
Conclusion:
The Breastfeeding Week celebration at T & T. V. Institute of Nursing was successful in educating and raising awareness among expectant mothers about the significance of breastfeeding. The event not only provided valuable knowledge but also addressed the concerns and queries of the participants, making it a fruitful and impactful session.
Day 2:Lactating Diet Preparation Competition

On the second day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration, a competition on lactating diet preparation was organized at T & T. V. Institute of Nursing. The competition focused on creating nutritious and affordable meals that meet the daily dietary requirements of lactating mothers.
Participants:
A total of 10 students participated, including students from the 5th semester of B.Sc. Nursing, 3rd year of GNM, and 4th year of B.Sc. Nursing. The dishes were prepared in the nutrition lab, showcasing the students’ understanding of dietary needs and creativity in meal preparation.

Chief Guest:
The event was inaugurated with a warm welcome to the chief guest, Mr. Iqbal Kadiwala, Vice- President of the Gujarat Nursing Council.
Judging Criteria: After the preparation of dishes, the evaluation was conducted by Dr. Sandhya Chhhasathiya, M.D.D.G.O. at Sandhya Hospital and Maternity Care, Surat, and Ms. Swati Jain, Chief Dietician at Venus Hospital. The dishes were judged based on taste, nutritional value, presentation, and affordability for all women.

- Second Place:Ms. Urvi Patel (5th semester, B.Sc. Nursing)
- Third Place:Ms. Nensi Patel

The competition provided students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting, while also emphasizing the importance of proper nutrition for lactating mothers. The event was well-received, and the creativity and skill of the participants were highly appreciated by both the judges and the audience.
Day 3:Panel Discussion on Breastfeeding

The third day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration featured a panel discussion organized at the T & T. V. Institute of Nursing. The event began with a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, followed by a series of discussions and expert talks on various aspects of breastfeeding.

The session commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome speech by Mr. Kiran Domadia, Principal of T & T. V. Institute of Nursing. Mr. Iqbal Kadiwala then delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of breastfeeding and the significance of organ donation.

The panel discussion featured seven students from the 5th semester B.Sc. Nursing, 3rd year GNM, and 4th year B.Sc. Nursing, moderated by Prachi Patel from 4th year B.Sc. The discussion covered the following topics:

Expert Talk:
After the panel discussion, Dr. Sandhya Chhhasathiya delivered an insightful talk on maternal mortality rates, the importance of early breastfeeding, and proper latching techniques.

Prize Distribution:
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the lactating diet preparation competition, and certificates were given to students who participated in the drama at Diamond Hospital.
Day 4: Breastfeeding Exhibition

On the fourth day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration, an exhibition on breastfeeding was held at Diamond Hospital. The exhibition aimed to educate and empower antenatal women with essential knowledge about breastfeeding.
Participants:
Students from the 5th semester B.Sc. Nursing, 3rd year GNM, and 4th year B.Sc. Nursing took part in the exhibition.
Audience:
A total of 50 antenatal women attended the exhibition.
Topics Covered: The exhibition covered a wide range of topics crucial to breastfeeding, including:
- The theme of the year
- Nutritional advantages for the baby
- Immune system support
- Bonding between mother and baby
- Long-term health benefits for both mother and baby
- Foods to avoid for lactating women
- The importance of rest and self-care
- Proper latching techniques
- Different positions for breastfeeding
- Recognizing baby hunger cues
- Strategies to overcome common breastfeeding challenges
- Balancing breastfeeding with work and responsibilities
- Legal rights and workplace accommodations for lactating women
Interactive Session:
During the exhibition, students actively engaged with the attendees, addressing their queries and providing guidance on how to effectively implement the breastfeeding strategies discussed.

The session was well-supported by the hospital administration, with assistance from Dr. Haresh Paghada, Administrator, and Mrs. Geeta Solanki, Nursing Superintendent.

Day 5:Health Education Session on Breastfeeding

On the fifth day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration, a health education session on breastfeeding was held at Diamond Hospital. The session aimed to provide expectant mothers with crucial information and practical guidance on breastfeeding.
Participants: 5th semester B.Sc. Nursing students led the session.
Audience: A total of 50 antenatal women attended the health education program.
Guidance: The session was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Sonal Vaghela.

Preparation of the mother for breastfeeding
- Proper positioning for breastfeeding
Benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby
The importance of burping the baby after breastfeeding
- Day 6:Inter-College Quiz Competition on Breastfeeding
Date: 6th August 2024
Time: 3:00 p.m. onwards
Venue: New Civil Hospital, Surat
On the sixth day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration, an inter-college quiz competition was organized at New Civil Hospital. The event focused on testing and enhancing students’ knowledge about breastfeeding, including addressing common myths.
Participants:
A total of 230 students from various colleges participated in the quiz competition.
From T & T. V. Institute of Nursing, 35 students took part.
Event Organization:
- The quiz competition was organized by Dr. Hirani.
- Expert talks were delivered by Dr. Ashwini and Dr. Pankaj, who discussed breastfeeding and debunked myths related to it.
Quiz Format:
- The competition was conducted using a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format.
Achievements:
- Divya Patel, a 4th-year B.Sc. Nursing student from T & T. V. Institute of Nursing, secured the second rank in the quiz competition.
Conclusion:
The session concluded with all participants and faculty members taking an oath to raise awareness about breastfeeding. The event not only tested students’ knowledge but also reinforced the importance of breastfeeding.
Day 7:Inter-College Slogan Competition on Breastfeeding

Venue: New Civil Hospital, Surat
On the final day of the Breastfeeding Week celebration, an inter-college slogan competition on breastfeeding was held at New Civil Hospital. The event encouraged students to creatively express the importance of breastfeeding through impactful slogans.
Participants:
From T & T. V. Institute of Nursing, 5 students participated, representing the 5th semester, 4th year B.Sc. Nursing, and 3rd year GNM.
Achievements: The participants from our institute performed exceptionally well, securing all top
three positions:
- 1st Rank: *Patel Dhruvi (4th year B.Sc. Nursing)
- 2nd Rank: *Patel Aditya (4th year B.Sc. Nursing)
- 3rd Rank: Maisuriya Krishna (5th semester B.Sc. Nursing)
Conclusion:
The Breastfeeding Week celebration was a resounding success, with various events, competitions, and educational sessions held throughout the week. We are deeply thankful to our trustees, Principal Mr. Kiran Domadia, and everyone who contributed their valuable time and effort to make this event a success. Their support and dedication have been instrumental in the success of this week-long celebration.
